About St Michael and All Angels
St Michael and All Angels stands on Clements Gate in Derby, Leicestershire. It is a Church of England place of worship and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
The church originated in the 11th century, although much of the surviving structure was built during the 1200s. Its tower followed in the early 14th century, while the north porch bears the date 1661. Restoration took place in 1840, followed by new pews in 1842 and work on the chancel in 1885. The tower and spire were repaired in 1897, when a lychgate was also added and four windows were restored for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Notable fittings include a barrel organ made by Thomas Grey in 1824, a slate clock face dated 1730 and six bells produced in 1921 by the Loughborough bellfounder John Taylor.
