About St Saviour's
St Saviour’s is an active Church of England parish church in Cuerden, near Preston in Lancashire. It belongs to the Diocese of Blackburn and is protected as a Grade II listed building.
Edmund Sharpe designed the original church in the Romanesque style, and construction took place in 1836–37. Public donations largely funded the work, while Robert Townley Parker provided the site and contributed towards the cost. Thomas Harrison Myres added the transepts and chancel in 1886, matching Sharpe’s architectural approach. Built from local sandstone, the church has Welsh slate roofing and a west tower formed by a square lower section, an octagonal upper stage and a spire. Inside are a gallery carried on cast-iron columns, memorials to the Townley Parker family and an early 20th-century font with angel supports. Alexander Young made the two-manual organ in 1889.
