About St Nicholas's

St Nicholas’s is an active Church of England parish church in Wrea Green, Lancashire, in the Preston area. It belongs to the Diocese of Blackburn and shares a benefice with churches at Ballam and Weeton. The building has Grade II listed status.

A chapel was established here in the early 1720s and later replaced by the present church, constructed in 1848–49 to designs by Sharpe and Paley. Built from roughly dressed sandstone beneath blue slate roofing, it follows the Early English Gothic style. Paley and Austin added the tower and spire in 1884. Interior features include a stone pulpit, a decorated gilded reredos and stained glass made by Shrigley and Hunt. The current two-manual pipe organ, built by Sixsmith in 1988, replaced a late 19th-century instrument.
