About St Michael
St Michael is a Church of England parish church on Preston Road in Grimsargh, Preston, Lancashire. It remains in active use and belongs to the Diocese of Blackburn, within the Archdeaconry of Preston and the local deanery. The church has Grade II listed status.
A chapel stood here from 1716, with the chancel and northern aisle added in 1840. Paley and Austin of Lancaster substantially altered the building between 1868 and 1871, replacing the nave and constructing the western tower. Built of sandstone beneath slate roofing, it has Decorated Gothic detailing and includes a five-bay nave, vestry and battlemented tower with a pyramidal roof. Inside are octagonal arcade columns, a barrel-vaulted nave ceiling, two fonts and trefoil-headed seating for clergy in the chancel. Shrigley and Hunt made the east-window glass in 1954. The churchyard holds five war graves from the two world wars.
