About St Lawrence's Church, Longridge
St Lawrence’s Church, Longridge is an active Church of England parish church in Longridge, Preston, Lancashire. It belongs to the Diocese of Blackburn and serves as one of Longridge’s two parish churches on an equal basis with nearby St Paul’s.
A chapel at Longridge was recorded in 1522, having been established as a dependent chapel of St Wilfrid’s in Ribchester. The building was reconstructed in 1716, then repaired and extended in 1784. Its tower followed in 1841, while a north porch was added beside the nave’s western end in 1926. Stained glass includes work made by James Powell and Sons between 1938 and 1940, and a First World War memorial window by Shrigley & Hunt. Brian Clarke created mezzanine gallery windows in 1975, using semi-abstract views of local hills, waterways, reservoirs and quarries. Marble and brass memorials commemorate Longridge residents who died in the two world wars.
