About St Anne's

St Anne’s is an active Church of England parish church on Woodplumpton Road, Preston, Lancashire. Serving the Woodplumpton community within the Diocese of Blackburn, it has held Grade II* status since 1966, recognising its particular architectural and historic importance.

Evidence suggests that a chapel stood here before 1200, although the earliest written record dates to 1552. Much of the church was reconstructed in 1630, with the south aisle following in 1748. Sharpe, Paley and Austin are associated with the building, and Austin and Paley undertook extensive work in 1899–1900, including window installation, roof renewal, arcade repairs and vestry enlargement. Built from red and yellow sandstone and gritstone, the church has slate-covered roofs, a nave with two aisles, a chancel and a western tower. The tower carries an octagonal cupola, stone dome and weathervane. Two bells date from 1596 and 1837.
