About St Andrew's Church
St Andrew’s Church stands on Blackpool Road in Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston. It remains an active Church of England parish church within the Diocese of Blackburn and follows the Conservative Evangelical tradition, with alternative episcopal oversight provided by the Bishop of Ebbsfleet. The church is protected as a Grade II listed building.
Founded in the 1830s, it was consecrated in 1836. Ewan Christian enlarged the sandstone church in 1873–74 by creating a northern aisle and altering the nave windows in the Early English manner; a vestry followed in 1902. Its compact western tower has Romanesque detailing and rises to a short broach spire. Inside, polished pink granite columns support the arcade. Other features include Pedder family memorials, an east window with stained glass by Hardman, and a three-manual Henry Willis & Sons organ dating from 1902. Edmund Robert Harris, a benefactor of several Preston institutions, is buried in the vault.
