About St Anne's Parish Church
St Anne's Parish Church is an active Anglican parish church in St Annes-on-the-Sea, within Lytham St Annes on Lancashire’s Fylde coast. It belongs to the Diocese of Blackburn and the Lancaster archdeaconry. The Church of England building has held Grade II listed status since 1993.
Built in 1872–73, the church originally served as a chapel connected with St Cuthbert’s in Lytham and gained its own parish in 1877. Paley and Austin designed it on land given by the Clifton family. Red brick, sandstone details and tiled roofs form its Gothic-influenced exterior. Richard Knill Freeman extended the building in 1885–86 with an aisle, transept and vestry; the tower followed in 1890, the Lady Chapel in 1909 and a baptistry in 1919. Interior features include stained glass by John Hayward and E. H. Jewitt, together with a Caen stone reredos. A churchyard monument commemorates six lifeboat crewmen killed during an attempted rescue in 1886.
