About Caton St. Paul's Church
Caton St. Paul’s Church stands in Brookhouse, within Caton-with-Littledale in Lancashire. It remains an active Church of England parish church, serving within the Diocese of Blackburn. Recognised for its architectural and historic importance, the church is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
Christian worship on the site is documented from before 1230. The west tower is thought to have been built during the 16th century, while Edward Graham Paley redesigned the remainder of the church in 1865–67. Built of rough sandstone beneath slate roofing, it has a clerestoried nave, aisles, chancel, porch and organ chamber. The three-storey tower features buttresses, battlements and Perpendicular-style window tracery. A sealed Norman entrance contains medieval carved stonework. Inside are octagonal arcade piers, stained glass by Shrigley and Hunt and Abbott and Company, memorials dating from 1775 onwards, and an organ made by Conacher.
