About St Nicholas Church, Linton
St Nicholas Church, Linton is a Church of England parish church in Hunton, Kent. It stands beside the A229 at Linton Hill and is protected as a Grade II* listed building, recognising its special architectural and historic interest.
The church originated in the Norman period, although much of its present form reflects later work. Extensive rebuilding took place during the 1560s, followed by another major reconstruction in 1860 under the architect R. C. Hussey. The structure is built from ragstone and covered by a simple tiled roof. Inside are monuments carved by E. H. Baily, the sculptor who also created the statue of Admiral Lord Nelson that stands at the top of Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square.
