About St Benedict's Church, Paddlesworth
St Benedict's Church, Paddlesworth is a former Anglican place of worship in Halling, Kent. Beside a farm along the Pilgrims’ Way and roughly a mile westward from Snodland, the church is protected as a Grade II* listed building. It is no longer a parish church and is maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust.
Built in the early twelfth century, the church was altered during the thirteenth century. Religious use ended in 1678, after which the building served secular purposes for around 250 years, including use for farming. Restorations took place early in the twentieth century and again later that century. The modest structure is formed from rubble ragstone beneath a tiled roof, with a nave and chancel. Rounded arches top its openings, while the plain interior includes a nineteenth-century gallery and a cast-iron candelabrum from the late seventeenth century.
