About All Saints Church, Snodland
All Saints Church, Snodland is an Anglican parish church in Halling, Kent, with a dedication to all the saints. It stands near Snodland station, beside the Medway at the Pilgrims’ Way crossing, and holds Grade I listed status.
Christian worship may have taken place here by about 1000, and the site appears in the 1086 Domesday survey. The present structure began during the 12th-century Norman period, traditionally dated to 1150, before considerable extensions were made between the 1200s and 1400s. A Norman arch remains visible over the western window, while the nave columns, arcades and adjoining aisles probably belong to the 14th century. The tower followed in the 1400s. Nineteenth-century work included changes to windows, reconstruction of the eastern wall, new floors and roofing, and the gradual removal of older pews. Further renovation came in 1905. Wartime blast damage affected medieval glass in 1942, and the south aisle contains a memorial to India route pioneer Thomas Waghorn.
