About St Bartholomew's Church

St Bartholomew’s Church stands on Goodnestone Lane in the village of Goodnestone, about 1.5 miles east of Faversham in Kent. This former Church of England place of worship is now redundant and cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust. It has Grade I listed status and is open to visitors each day.

Built around 1150, the church is Norman in origin, with later work dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. Its simple flint structure has a tiled roof, a nave, chancel and northern porch, with a timber bellcote above the western gable. An earth tremor damaged the porch before its reconstruction in 1837. Further restoration followed in 1876, with extensive repairs undertaken in 1997. Notable details include lancet and Perpendicular windows, stained glass by Thomas Willement in the eastern window, a 14th-century chancel arch, piscinas, sedilia, a rood stair and a tomb recess.
