About Saint Rumwold's Church

Saint Rumwold's Church is a Church of England parish church in Bonnington, Kent, near Romney Marsh. It remains in active use, with worship taking place regularly, and is protected at Grade I. Paul O’Grady’s funeral took place there in April 2023.

The present church originated in the twelfth century. Its dedication recalls Rumwold, a child saint traditionally said to have survived for three days. Kentish ragstone was used for the building, which consists of a nave and chancel with a modest turret. During the medieval period, Bonnington’s manor belonged to the Knights Hospitaller. The church also stands close to the Royal Military Canal, constructed for defence during the Napoleonic era.
