About St Giles, Wormshill

St Giles, Wormshill is a Church of England parish church in Bicknor, Kent, dedicated to Saint Giles. It belongs to a united benefice that includes Tunstall and Bredgar, alongside several neighbouring parishes, and lies within the Diocese of Canterbury. The church remains in parish use and is protected as a Grade II listed building.

A church stood here before the Norman Conquest, and the nave is thought to date from the early eleventh century. Built mainly from flint with stone detailing, the building incorporates Norman elements and later medieval additions. A north aisle and the lower part of the western tower were added during the thirteenth century, while the bell stage followed in the fifteenth. Notable details include a possibly Anglo-Saxon or early Norman window, a medieval timber porch, a fifteenth-century holy-water stoup and a thirteenth-century chest. Restoration took place in 1879–80, followed by work to the tower and porch in 1903.
