About St. Paul's Church, Gatten, Shanklin

St. Paul's Church, Gatten, Shanklin serves as an active Anglican parish church in Shanklin, on the Isle of Wight. It belongs to the Church of England and is recognised as a Grade II listed building.

The parish was created in 1876 from territory previously belonging to Sandown. C. L. Luck designed the church, which was erected over the decade from 1880 to 1890. Its layout features a rounded-ended chancel, an aisled nave divided into five sections and a stone-built tower at the northern corner. Forster and Andrews supplied the pipe organ in 1882, while a bell recovered from HMS Eurydice is another notable feature. On 17 February 1943, during an enemy air attack, a bomb crossed the church and detonated in the vicarage, killing the Revd R. B. Irons and everyone else inside. Worship resumed there in February 1947.
