About St Paul's

St Paul’s is an active Church of England parish church in the Barton area of Newport on the Isle of Wight. Standing on Staplers Road, it is protected as a Grade II listed building. Services take place at 10.00 am on Sundays and 10.15 am on Wednesdays.

Completed and consecrated in 1844, the church was designed by James William Wild in the neo-Norman style. It initially served Barton as a district church within Whippingham parish and was planned to seat 800 people, with 200 places available without charge. Its layout includes aisles on both the northern and southern sides, together with an apse. A tower crowned by a spire rises at the western end of the southern aisle. Inside is stained glass created by Charles Eamer Kempe, while two memorial tablets commemorate local servicemen who died in the First and Second World Wars.
