About Pulteneytown Parish Church
Pulteneytown Parish Church stands in Argyle Square in Pulteneytown, Wick, Highland. It remains an active Church of Scotland congregation with an evangelical ministry. The church building is protected as a Category C listed structure.
Opened in 1842, the church experienced an early change when its first minister, David Mitchell, departed after the 1843 Disruption and later served the Free Church in Glasgow. In 1961, the congregation was linked with the rural parish at Thrumster, about five miles south of Wick, with one minister serving both. Known as Wick St Andrew’s between 1929 and 1990, it regained its original name after joining with Wick Central Church, whose building is no longer used. An extensive refurbishment was completed in 2003.
