St Mary Magdalene is a former Anglican place of worship in Caldecote, an abandoned medieval settlement near Baldock, Hertfordshire. It is protected at Grade II* and has belonged to the Friends of Friendless Churches since 1982. A local support group was formed in 2007 to help with its upkeep.
Most of the church was erected during the 1300s and 1400s, though its recorded clergy extend back to 1215, indicating an older building may once have stood there. Flint and locally quarried clunch form the walls, with brick used where the softer stone deteriorated. The compact interior combines chancel and nave in one continuous space. Architectural details include a buttressed western tower, a southern porch from the 1400s, crenellated rooflines and Perpendicular windows. Inside are an ornate eight-sided medieval font, carved seating of similar age and an uncommon hooded holy-water basin. Memorials include a sculpted image of William Makesey at prayer, commemorating the rector who died in 1424.
