About Saint Mary the Virgin
Saint Mary the Virgin is a Church of England parish church in Laverstoke with Freefolk, near Whitchurch in Hampshire. Standing east of Laverstoke and close to the small settlement of Freefolk, it continues to serve as the parish church. The building is protected at Grade II.
Completed in 1896, the church was designed by John Loughborough Pearson. Its exterior combines flint walls with architectural detailing in Bath stone. A steeple rises from the south side and incorporates a chapel at its base. Inside, the chancel includes a wall passage and detached shafts, while the remainder of the structure is not vaulted. The pipe organ was made by Wordsworth and Maskell and also dates from 1896.
