About St Dona's Church, Llanddona
St Dona’s Church is a small parish church near Llanddona in Gwynedd, on the eastern side of Anglesey. Standing on a steep coastal hillside about a mile from the village, it remains in use for worship and forms part of a united parish comprising seven churches. The church has been protected as a Grade II listed building since 1968.
A place of worship is believed to have been established here in 610, with documentary evidence of a church by 1254. The current Gothic Revival building was designed by the rector, Peter Jones, and erected in 1873. Constructed from rubble stone with freestone dressings, it has a slate roof, western stone bellcote and southern porch. Older elements were retained, including an ornate fifteenth-century entrance and a bell cast in 1647. The east window contains stained glass installed in 1963, showing Christ, St Curig and St Dona. An octagonal gritstone font may date from the fourteenth century.
