About St Beuno's Church

St Beuno’s Church is an active parish church in Trefdraeth, near Bodorgan in Gwynedd, Wales. Dedicated to the seventh-century Welsh saint Beuno, it serves an Anglican congregation and belongs to a group of four parishes. The church is protected at Grade II*, reflecting its importance as a largely unaltered rural place of worship from the later medieval period.

Tradition places a church on the site around 616, although nothing from that period remains. The nave and chancel are the earliest surviving sections, dating from the thirteenth century, with construction recorded from 1201. Built mainly of rubble stone in the Decorated Gothic style, the building gained a southern chapel around the end of that century or shortly afterwards. A western bellcote followed in the fourteenth century, while the south porch was built around 1500. Much of the principal roof dates from the seventeenth century. Unlike many Anglesey churches, it underwent only limited nineteenth-century work, including repairs during the 1840s and in 1854.
