St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church is an active place of worship on Chapel Street in Leigh, Greater Manchester. It belongs to the Roman Catholic parish of St Edmund Arrowsmith and is protected as a Grade II listed building.
The present church opened in 1855, replacing a brick chapel erected in 1778, which gave Chapel Street its name. Joseph Hansom designed the building in the Gothic Revival manner, using dressed stone and a slate roof patterned with bands of fish-scale slates. Its layout includes a broad nave, a many-sided chancel, side chapels, a sacristy and a south porch. The western tower, finished in 1878, rises through three stages and incorporates an octagonal stair turret, lancet openings, pinnacles and statues. Inside, slender cast-iron supports with palm-shaped capitals were added after the original hammerbeam roof failed. The poet and priest Gerard Manley Hopkins served here from 1879.
