About Duke Street Church
Duke Street Church is a Baptist congregation based on Quadrant Road in Richmond, Greater London. Today it maintains a conservative evangelical outlook, belongs to FIEC and has connections with the Evangelical Alliance, Affinity and the South East Gospel Partnership.
The church grew from ministry begun by student pastor Frederick Brotherton Meyer in 1868. In 1870, 47 people gathered as Parkshot Church, using a prefabricated iron place of worship near Park Lane. Seeking a more central position, the congregation later relocated, and an eight-sided stone chapel influenced by early French Gothic architecture was finished in 1881. By 1946, attendance had outgrown the premises, with evening gatherings held at Richmond Theatre. Princes Hall, a neighbouring Victorian dance venue, was acquired in 1950. A larger church building, including an auditorium for over 600 people, opened in 1962. Meeting spaces, offices and a café were introduced in 2010, followed by extensive auditorium improvements completed in 2022.
