St Boniface German Church is a Roman Catholic place of worship at 47 Adler Street in Whitechapel, within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Serving German-speaking Catholics in East London and belonging to the Diocese of Westminster, the church is protected as a Grade II listed building.
The German Catholic mission in East London dates from 1809 and settled on Adler Street in 1862. Its later nineteenth-century church suffered Zeppelin damage in 1917 and was destroyed by bombing in 1940. The current Modernist building, designed by Donald Plaskett Marshall, was constructed in 1959–60. Its north front has 65 red-glass windows arranged with mosaic crosses, while a slim, grey-mosaic bell tower contains four bells made at the nearby Whitechapel Bell Foundry in 1885. Inside are a white-painted nave, green marble fittings and Heribert Reul’s mural showing Christ in Majesty alongside St Boniface. The organ was built in 1965 by Romanus Seifert & Sohn.
