About Saint Stephen
Saint Stephen is an active Church of England parish church on St Stephen’s Crescent in Westbourne Park, London. Dating to the Victorian period, it remains in use and is recognised as a Grade II listed building.
The church was completed in 1856 to designs by the brothers Frederick John and Horace Francis. Although they were responsible for at least 20 churches across London, this is thought to be their only surviving example. The building has undergone several alterations, including the loss of its tall spire, which was taken down after the Second World War because it was considered unsafe. Its organ was built by William Hill in 1866 and later altered by Hill, Norman and Beard. Both the interior and exterior were used in the 1954 film The Crowded Day.
