About Our Lady Of Grace And St Edward Roman Catholic Church
Our Lady Of Grace And St Edward Roman Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Chiswick, London. It occupies a corner site beside Chiswick High Road and Duke’s Avenue and is paired with St Joseph’s, Grove Park, and St Dunstan’s, Gunnersbury. The church is protected as a Grade II listed building.
The parish dates from 1848, while the current church was completed in 1886, replacing an earlier building opened on the same site in 1864. Designed by Kelly & Birchall, it is a red-brick basilica enriched with Renaissance-inspired terracotta and decorative brickwork. Giles Gilbert Scott added its tall, yellow-brown brick bell tower in 1930 as a memorial to the First World War. Bomb damage affected the eastern wall in 1944, and repairs to the wall and roof were completed in 1953, when Donald Plaskett Marshall also designed a porch and baptistery. Inside, round Corinthian columns divide the nave from lower aisles beneath a coffered ceiling decorated in red, white and gold.
