About Emmanuel Church
Emmanuel Church is a Church of England parish church in Forest Gate, London. It is protected as a Grade II listed building, a designation granted in 1984. The parish was created from areas formerly served by churches in West Ham and East Ham.
Designed by George Gilbert Scott, the church was completed in 1852 in a Decorated Gothic form of Gothic Revival architecture. Its north aisle dates from 1890, while damage sustained during the Blitz was subsequently repaired. The parish helped establish two local mission churches: St Saviour’s in 1880 and St Mark’s, which later received its own building and parish. In 1881, part of Emmanuel’s parish also contributed to the creation of a parish for St James’ Church in Forest Gate.
