About Church of the Most Holy Trinity with St Mary
The Church of the Most Holy Trinity with St Mary is a Church of England parish church in Hoxton, within the London Borough of Hackney. It has a longstanding High Church tradition and is protected as a Grade II listed building.
Completed in 1848, the church was designed by William Railton, architect of Nelson’s Column. Its Gothic design draws on medieval English architecture and uses Kentish ragstone, with a prominent tower and broach spire. Inside, slender arcades rise from eight-sided piers against white walls. The tower’s ground level became a baptistry in 1896 under Spencer W. Grant. Bombing damaged the building in 1941, prompting Martin Travers to reorganise the chancel the following year. The remade high altar incorporated stone from six nearby bombed churches. Holy Trinity then united with St Mary, Britannia Walk, which had been left derelict in the same raid. A John Compton pipe organ was installed in the west gallery in 1952.
