About Church of the Holy Innocents
The Church of the Holy Innocents is an Anglican place of worship serving the parish of South Norwood, in the southern part of London. It is dedicated to the Holy Innocents and remains in use as a parish church. The building has held Grade II* protection since 1976, reflecting its particular architectural significance.
British architect George Frederick Bodley prepared the design, and construction took place during 1894 and 1895. Its Gothic Revival style interprets the Perpendicular phase of English medieval architecture. A tower formed part of Bodley’s original scheme, but it was never constructed, so the building was completed without this planned feature.
