About Church of St Peter and St Paul
The Church of St Peter and St Paul is an active Anglican parish church in Chingford, within Greater London. Its parish belongs to Chelmsford Diocese and sits within the West Ham archdeaconry. Services follow the Anglo-Catholic tradition. The church is protected at Grade II* level, a designation awarded on 28 June 1954.
Architect Lewis Vulliamy created the original building, which dates from 1844. Its construction was funded by Robert Boothby Heathcote, rector of Chingford’s All Saints at that time, who provided £5,000 personally after becoming troubled by the state of the older church. In 1903, architect Sir Arthur Blomfield enlarged the structure with additions at its east end.
