About Church of All Saints
The Church of All Saints serves the Church of England parish of Tooting in the London Borough of Wandsworth. It falls within Southwark Diocese and Wandsworth Archdeaconry. The building has held Grade II protection since 14 July 1955.
Built during 1903–06, the church was planned by Temple Moore in the Gothic Revival tradition and consecrated the following year. Its construction was paid for through money bequeathed by Lady Augusta Brudenell-Bruce as a memorial to her husband, Lord Charles. After Moore disagreed with the original incumbent, Walter Tapper took responsibility for decorating the interior. The layout incorporates a central nave bordered by paired aisles, a tower on the northern side, a chancel with aisles and a Lady Chapel facing east. Musical features include a Harrison & Harrison instrument from 1906 with three keyboards, granted Grade II* recognition in 2014. The building is also noted for its acoustics and was used for major classical recordings in the late twentieth century.
