Its dedication honours John Keble, a prominent figure in the Oxford Movement, and no other church bears this particular dedication.
Architect D. F. Martin-Smith created the building in a modernist style. Construction concluded in 1936, with consecration taking place during the same year. The design therefore belongs firmly to the interwar period, when modernist ideas were influencing church architecture. Formal recognition of the building’s special architectural and historic importance followed on 18 May 1989, when it was added to the statutory list at Grade II.
