About St Mary's Church, Welwick

St Mary’s Church, Welwick is an Anglican parish church in Welwick, within the Hull area of the East Riding of Yorkshire. With origins around 1250, it continues to serve as a Church of England place of worship and holds Grade I listed status.

Most of the structure combines limestone rubble with finely cut masonry, although brick appears in the later porch and parapet. Elements surviving from the 1200s include the arch opening into the tower and portions of both nave and chancel. A substantial reconstruction during the earlier 1300s introduced side aisles and an upper row of windows, while also enlarging the chancel towards the east. The western tower was renewed in the following century. Interior highlights include a medieval timber screen repaired in 1906, a 1618 pulpit and traces of wall decoration created after the Reformation. An ornate priestly monument from about 1340–50 stands in the southern aisle, and the eastern window contains stained glass made in 1877.
