About St Dyfnog's Church

St Dyfnog’s Church is a Church of England parish church serving Llanrhaeadr in the Denbigh area of Denbighshire. Dedicated to the Welsh saint Dyfnog, it remains in active use within the Diocese of St Asaph and the Denbigh Mission Area. The church is protected as a Grade I listed building.

Recorded in 1254, the church has 13th-century origins, with substantial remodelling during the 15th and 16th centuries. Built from limestone rubble, it has sandstone detailing, slate-covered roofs, two naves, a southern chamber and a tower of four storeys. Its richly decorated roofs date from the later rebuilding. The notable Tree of Jesse window was made in 1533 and depicts Christ’s ancestry from Jesse. Reportedly hidden for safety during the Civil War, it was returned in 1661. Other features include monuments to local figures and a carved pelican from 1792. Victorian restoration took place in 1879 and 1880.
