About Church of St Michael

The Church of St Michael is a Church of England parish church in Saltash, Cornwall. It remains in parish use and is protected as a Grade I listed building.

The stone church was begun during the 13th century and consecrated in 1269, although its granite font dates from around 1100. Surviving early fabric includes sections of the nave and south entrance. Much of the building was reconstructed and extended during the late 1300s and 1400s in Perpendicular Gothic form, adding the western tower, northern aisle and porch, and southern transept. Built from slatestone rubble with granite and greenstone details, it has slate-covered roofs. The three-stage tower features an embattled parapet, pinnacles, carved gargoyles and an octagonal stair turret. A late Victorian restoration renewed the roofs and changed several windows. Interior features include a 1509 memorial brass, two carved slate monuments from 1607, and stained glass installed in 1866 and 1887.
