About Church of St Leonard and St Dilp

The Church of St Leonard and St Dilp is an Anglican parish church in Landulph, near Saltash in Cornwall. Set beside the Tamar within an ancient oval burial ground, it continues to serve its parish and holds Grade I protection.

The present fabric is mainly fourteenth-century, though it may replace an older structure. Stone walls carry slate coverings, enclosing a combined chancel and nave with aisles on either side. During the fifteenth century, builders created the western tower, added the two aisles and constructed the porch to the south. Victorian work included lifting and renewing the main roof to provide upper-level windows, as well as building a vestry. Historic details include a font that may be Norman, carved medieval seating ends, portions of fifteenth-century coloured glass and a screen assembled in 1929 from older material. A heraldic tomb commemorates Sir Nicholas Lower, while timber panelling dated 1631 came from the Lower family pew.
