About St Conan's Church, Egloshayle
St Conan's Church, Egloshayle, is an active Church of England parish church beside the A389, close to Washaway near Bodmin in Cornwall. It shares a parish with St Breoke’s Church in St Breock and St Petroc’s Church in Egloshayle. The church has held Grade II listed status since 4 November 1988.
Completed in 1883 for £490, the church welcomed its first worshippers on 23 July that year. Norwich architect James Arthur Reeve prepared the design. Local builders Gill and Cleave carried out the masonry, Mr Williams of Egloshayle completed the carpentry, and Mr Evans of Doney and Evans supplied the granite work. Notable furnishings include an elaborately decorated font brought from Lanteglos-by-Camelford, believed to date from around 1100 or earlier and combining Saxon origins with Celtic-style ornament. The pulpit may have been made in Germany. The church’s dedication could refer either to a companion of St Petroc or to a tenth-century Bishop of St Germans.
