About St Grwst's Church
St Grwst’s Church stands on Church Street in Llanrwst, Conwy. This active parish church serves the local community and belongs to the Aberconwy Mission Area within the Diocese of St Asaph. Its architectural and historic importance is recognised through its designation as a Grade I listed building.
The church probably dates from the 1470s and is built of rubble masonry with limestone detailing in the Perpendicular style. Its layout includes a combined nave and chancel, northern aisle, southern porch, western tower and the Gwydir Chapel, which Richard Wynn added in 1633–34. The tower replaced an earlier bellcote during the early nineteenth century. Sharpe, Paley and Austin are associated with the building, and Paley and Austin undertook restoration in 1884, adding the aisle and removing a gallery. Notable interior features include an ornate twelve-bay rood screen with its loft, pre-1801 royal arms, historic monuments to the Wynn family, a medieval stone coffin and a fifteenth-century knightly effigy.
