About Christ Church Swindon
Christ Church Swindon is a Church of England parish church on Cricklade Street in Swindon, Wiltshire. It holds Grade II* listed status and is one of Old Town’s two principal buildings, alongside the nearby former town hall. Its grounds include a modern community centre used for events and activities. The parish also contains St Mary’s on The Mall, a twentieth-century church connected to sheltered housing.
Completed in 1851, the church was designed by George Gilbert Scott. The interior was reorganised in 2017, improving accessibility and adding gas heating and LED illumination. The nave pews were preserved but fitted so that they can be taken out when additional room is required for larger gatherings. The grounds contain the Commonwealth war grave of Irish jockey Tommy Cullinan, who achieved National Hunt racing’s unofficial Triple Crown in 1930.
