About Saint Andrew's
Saint Andrew’s is an active United Reformed church on Shaftesbury Avenue in Roundhay, Leeds, West Yorkshire. Together with its adjoining Sunday school, it is protected as a Grade II listed building. The congregation has worshipped under its present name since 1972.
Originally established as Roundhay Congregational Church, the congregation was formally founded with 29 members in 1902, following the laying of a foundation stone for an earlier school church in November 1901. The present building, designed by W. H. Beevers in the Gothic Revival style, opened in 1908 after its foundation stone was laid the previous year. Rock-faced gritstone walls and a red-tiled roof define the exterior, alongside a slender tower of three stages. Inside, the five-bay nave has timber panelling and an exposed wooden roof. The east window, dated 1907, illustrates the Good Samaritan.
