About Fulneck Moravian Church
Fulneck Moravian Church is in Pudsey, within Leeds, West Yorkshire. It forms part of the Moravian settlement founded on the Fulneck estate and is protected as a Grade I listed building. The settlement was created with land provided by Benjamin Ingham, an evangelical Anglican priest.
Construction of the church began in 1746 as part of a congregation house called Grace Hall, and the building was consecrated in 1748. Its design reflected Moravian practice at the time, combining living quarters with a central communal worship space rather than separating chapel and residence. The hall extended through the middle of the first two storeys and was lit by a line of high windows. It contained no altar, font or pulpit, while worship leaders sat behind a table. Notable interior details included restrained furnishings and an organ with an ornate fretwork case.
