About The Crossing at Saint Paul's Church, Limited
The Crossing at Saint Paul's Church, Limited is a Church of England church on Darwall Street in Walsall, within the Diocese of Lichfield. The Grade II listed building also houses a community-focused company that provides meeting rooms, a coffee shop and retail premises.
The first church was consecrated in 1826 and designed by Francis Goodwin in a Greek Classical manner, with rendered brickwork, a nave and western tower. A chancel followed in 1852. Originally built by Walsall Grammar School’s governors for pupils and local residents, it passed to the townspeople in 1874 and gained its own parish a year later. J. L. Pearson rebuilt the church in 1892 using Codsall sandstone and Decorated Gothic architecture. Its features include aisles on both sides of the clerestoried nave, modest northern and southern transepts, and a large seven-light west window with tracery.
