About All Saints
All Saints is a Church of England parish church on Coneyford Road in Solihull, West Midlands. Built in 1955, it remains a parish church and has held Grade II listed status since 2022, recognising its architectural quality, craftsmanship and historical importance.
Designed by Birmingham architect Frank J. Osborne, the brick church was created for the newly developed Shard End estate, with construction beginning in 1954. Its name recalls a Small Heath church lost to bombing during the Second World War, and the War Damage Commission financed the replacement. Leonard Wilson, then Bishop of Birmingham, consecrated it on 1 November 1955. Queen Elizabeth II visited two days later, and an adjoining community hall was finished soon afterwards. William Bloye contributed sculptural pieces, including a figure of Christ above the doorway. A bell made by John Taylor & Co was added to the tower in 1966.
