About Morison Memorial church
Morison Memorial church is a United Reformed congregation in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. It stands on Dumbarton Road, close to the town hall. Its community café received a national community award in 2006 from Congregational Insurance and Reform Magazine. The church has also gained recognition for its provision for children and young people, becoming the denomination’s first congregation in Scotland to receive the Child Friendly Church Award.
Plans for the building were prepared in 1893 by the Glasgow architectural practice Steel & Balfour, which chose an English Gothic design. John Wilson, the MP representing Govan, set the foundation stone in place on 3 October 1896. Founded within the Evangelical Union, the congregation soon joined Scotland’s Congregational Union. The building endured the Clydebank Blitz during the Second World War. In April 2000, the Congregational Union merged into the United Reformed Church.
