Christ Church is a Church of England parish church on Preston Road in North Shields, Tyne and Wear. It belongs to the Diocese of Newcastle and remains an active place of worship, with a Sunday service at 10.00 am. The church is protected as a Grade II listed building.
Construction of an earlier church began in 1654, with Robert Trollope appointed to finish the work in 1663. It was consecrated in 1668. John Dodds added the western tower between 1786 and 1788, then rebuilt the remainder to his plans in 1792–93. The present building is faced in dressed sandstone and roofed with Welsh slate. Its features include a three-level battlemented tower, a three-bay nave and an eastern apse enlarged in 1869. Inside are slender Tuscan columns, an eighteenth-century font and a western gallery containing the organ. Its mahogany casing incorporates woodwork from HMS Calliope. Historic grave covers and a listed seventeenth-century chest tomb also survive.
