About All Saints Church, Icklingham
All Saints Church, Icklingham is a redundant Anglican church in Icklingham, Suffolk. Standing on elevated ground near the road linking Mildenhall and Bury St Edmunds, it is listed at Grade I and cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust. It has been out of regular use for more than a century, and its former benefice is joined with St James’s Church in the village.
Although parts of the nave survive from the Norman period, most of the church was rebuilt around 1301, during a prosperous period for the area. A porch was later constructed on the south side in the 1400s. The building combines flint rubble and dressed freestone beneath a traditionally thatched roof. Notable features include a three-stage south-west tower, medieval stained glass and tiles, a partly surviving rood screen, carved pews and a 14th-century limestone font. Its three bells include two medieval examples made in Norwich and one cast at Thetford in 1608.
