About St Peter's Church, Hockwold
St Peter’s Church, Hockwold, is a redundant Anglican church in Hockwold cum Wilton, Suffolk. Formerly serving Hockwold as its parish church, it is now maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust. The church has held Grade I listed status since 1959.
The nave and south-west tower were built around 1350, while the chancel followed during the 15th century. Flint walls, stone detailing and slate roofs define the exterior, which also includes a south aisle and porch. The two-stage tower has angled, stepped buttresses and windows with paired lights. Inside, a four-arched arcade on octagonal supports divides the nave from the aisle, and the timber roof combines tie beams with imitation hammer beams. A memorial beside the east window commemorates Sir Cyril Wyche, an early Fellow of the Royal Society, who died in 1780. Restoration work took place in 1857.
