About Saint Peter's
Saint Peter’s is an active Church of England parish church on Stapenhill Road in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire. The Grade II listed building serves a parish that now includes Cauldwell. The church follows the conservative evangelical tradition and receives episcopal oversight from the Bishop of Ebbsfleet.
Christian worship has taken place on the site since medieval times, with possible Anglo-Saxon origins. The present building was completed in 1881 after population growth prompted a comprehensive reconstruction. Evans & Jolly designed it in the Perpendicular Gothic Revival manner, using textured Derbyshire sandstone with dressed limestone details. Its plan includes a five-bay nave, north and south aisles, transepts, a compact chancel and a three-stage square tower. Notable features include an elaborate east window showing Christ with saints, early twentieth-century Art Nouveau fittings, and a medieval font recovered from a farmyard and returned in 1973.
