About Victoria Hall

Victoria Hall is a Methodist church on Norfolk Street in central Sheffield, South Yorkshire. This Grade II listed place of worship occupies a large site between Chapel Walk and George Street, with its principal doorway facing Norfolk Street and an administrative entrance on Chapel Walk. It also hosts voluntary organisations and classical concerts.

Methodist worship began on this site with a Wesleyan chapel completed in 1779 and dedicated by John Wesley the following year. That building was substantially altered in 1875, then closed and demolished in 1906. Its larger replacement opened in September 1908, following designs by Waddington Son & Dunkerley that were extensively revised by William John Hale. The architecture combines Gothic and Arts and Crafts influences, while the tower has a prominent Baroque crown. Alfred and William Tory created the carved ornament, which includes representations of John and Charles Wesley.
